After the Post-Apocalypse…

Author: dvsDave | Filed under: Post-Apoc, Rebuilding Society

So, Jordan from Brick Flotilla, brought up an interesting point today.

Someone taking a new direction with Post-Apoc could be refreshing. Why not build a town full of happy people that rebuilt just fine? Why not a truck that delivers candy and/or food to people in need? That would be cool.

Jericho - TV SeriesI want to challenge the LEGO ApocaLEGO crowd to see how they would envision a society on the mend. A couple of potential parameters to think about. Assume restoration of law and order. (no, not the TV show) . Vigilante justice would now be frowned on. Bartering is still more prevalent than it used to be due to the extended time period where currency was worthless. Houses and buildings would still show the effects and damage from the post-apocalyptic era (although the damage is slowly being repaired).

I would recommend the show Jericho for people looking for inspiration.  (If you have Netflix, you can stream it on their Watch Instantly feature, and there are some episodes on IMDB.com to watch as well)

Space Police III – A Treasure Trove

Mr. Spike

Mr. Spike

When I first got back into LEGO from my “dark ages”, I was horrified to discover how much more stickers were being used in sets instead of printed bricks.    However, the new Space Police III sets are definitely an exception to this dislike of stickers.

A Brothers-Brick article, showcasing Nick Crocco’s (Steam Pirate) latest ApocaLego creations, showed off two vehicles with the grunge-style stickers from the 5972-1 Container Heist Space Police III set.

The broken-chain link transparent sticker (top left) is perfect for a windshield.  The grunge feel is great!  The three front spikes as great.  Perfect for spearing those pesky zombies.   You also get two of the new transparent red-yellow flames that are a VAST improvement over the old ones, albeit a bit large for most scenarios.    Of course, a site like BrickLink is truly invaluable to anyone looking for specialized or even just bulk parts.  Just be careful, it’s addictive!

The Traveling Salesmen – Part 2

Author: dvsDave | Filed under: Zombies

Born from set 7638, this is the second part of a series based off of the City Orange Towing theme.  Still working on the Semi-Rig.

The Traveling Salesmen are a roving group of former military mechanics turned private contracters that were demo’ing some new hardware at a small military base when the Zombie Apocalypse struck. Having holed up in a secluded hanger away from the main base, they worked to build a mobile fighting platforms from the vehicles that they had available to them. The Tow Truck underwent extensive modification to accommodate it’s new front spike set and reinforced bumper.  The Salesmen also added in a holding cell, either to safely transport personnel or to cart away a zombie for scientific experiments.   Having already seen some zombie action when these photos were taken, there are some battle scars on the front of the vehicle.

The Traveling Salesmen – Part 1

Author: dvsDave | Filed under: Zombies

Born from set 7681, this is the first part of a series based off of the City Orange Towing theme.  Still working on the Semi-Rig and the Tow Truck.

The motorcycle has twin machine-guns mounted to the back of the bike.  The most mobile of the Salesmen, he’s able to be their eyes and ears and scout ahead.  His maneuverability makes him ‘nigh impossible to catch.

The helmet comes from 5972, which will be the subject of another post shortly.  That set is a treasure trove of goodies!
